Repairs and Update History

1871-75 The Church was built.
1872 Bell was cast by J.G. Stucksted & Bros. – St. Louis, MO.
1876 Stations of the Cross purchased. 1.20$.
1893 The sacristy was built onto the back of the church.
1896 The church was repainted 40.00$.
1899 Statue of St. John was purchased 45.00$.
1908 Plaster and painted. New stained glass windows installed. 17 new pews and kneelers installed.
1953 The church closed. Parishioners attend St. Joseph in Dodgeville.
1968 Vandalism. Pews, statues, and tombstones were damaged.
1982 The interior of the Church and the sacristy were painted. New shingles on the steeple. A new cross was made for the church
1983 June 15th, St. John’s Union Mills Preservation, Inc. was formed.
August 30th, St. John’s Union Mills Pres. Inc. purchased the church from St. Joseph’s parish. Church was tuck-
pointed. Plexiglass installed over windows.
1985 Electricity was brought to the church.
1986 New roof put on 3101.00$. Statues repaired. The original altar stone was repainted and returned.
1989 Sofit and trim installed. Began memorial plaques.
1990 Interior painted by volunteers (1850.00$). St. John statue repaired.
1991 Pews sanded and refinished. Station frames refinished. New prints are put in old frames for stations.
1992 Gravel driveway. Cemetery stones repaired. Touch-up painting.
1997 A new sign with a map of the cemetery was designed and installed.
2000 More gravel on the driveway.
2001 A large pine tree in front of the church was removed.
2002 A chain-link fence was installed along the front of the cemetery. A new sign was made to replace the old one with cemetery names and dates. The exterior of the church is seal-coated.
2003 Montrance returned. DVDs are produced containing the church’s history.
2004 The interior of the church was painted 2500.00$. The roof was repaired on the bell tower. New front door installed.
2007 Church tuck-pointed.
2008 New picnic tables were donated. A bench was also donated.
2012 Sacracity, windows, bell tower, and cross painted.
2013 Church tuck-pointed and chimney repaired. Bees and honey were removed from the sacristy wall. Honey sold.
2015 Steel shingles were put on the roof in October. More gravel on the driveway.
2016 Steel shingles were put on the bell tower. Steel siding on the bell tower. New louvers on the bell tower. PCV cross replaced the old one. Total cost, 24,585$. (the church and bell tower). More gravel on the driveway. New aluminium cemetery map sign.
2017 Driveway graded and new gravel added.
2022 New windows installed. A bad storm took out some trees.
2024 October, A New gate was installed.
